Welcome to Mr. Needham's math webpages.
The purpose of these pages is to help my students, parents and guardians navigate the math courses that I teach. Use these websites to see what we are doing, where we have been and where we are going next.
I will try my best to organize the classes by topics, provide access to handouts and homework, and include links to alternate sources whenever possible. Keep posted for information about upcoming tests and any other important information.
Philosophy
We will spiral through the topics of each course. This means that concepts are constantly revisited and re-evaluated as we work through the semester. An important concept introduced at the beginning will reappear multiple times in different contexts as we go deeper and solidify our understanding. No concepts become old or forgotten because they are constantly revisited.
Essential instruction is provided but deep understanding comes from carefully selected problems sets that are designed to connect concepts, encourage perseverance and strengthen problems solving skills through critical thinking.
Role of the Student.
Work hard, persevere, seek assistance when needed. If you miss a day, make sure you know what happened that day and do not allow yourself to fall behind. Most importantly, put in an honest effort.
